Kate's Bike-a-thon report

Today was very fun. I did not ride 100 miles - but it was still fun.

We started by waking up at 5 am - way too early. When we got to the starting spot, we had our team picture taken. Then we had a picture taken of just our family.

Then it was time to ride.

We all rode over the bridge together. Then Daddy and I took off. About a mile later, Daddy got a flat tire. When Mommy and Noelle passed, I left Daddy and rode with them.

Daddy caught up just before the first rest stop. So, we took off again.

We skipped the first rest stop. We had lost time to make up.

When we got to the second rest stop we stopped for a few minutes so I could eat a 1/2 a banana.

The third rest stop was very far away – much further than the average. I started to slow down before the rest stop. So, I stopped once to eat a power bar and once to rest my foot. It was sore.

When we got to the third rest stop, we each ate a sandwich. We saw Miss Allison there, too - she works for the American Cancer Society.

Then we were back on the road. It wasn't that far to the next rest stop. I stopped to rest my foot again - it was still sore.

At about five miles from the start of the century loop my stomach started to hurt.

Then we came to a BIG hill with a red light in the middle. There were no cars coming, so we went through.

When we got to the start of the century loop I tried to keep going, but my stomach hurt too much. So we turned around and rode to the finish. It was about 1 p.m.

After my stomach began to feel better, we played the on the beach at the lake until it was time to go home.

Noelle's Bike-a-thon report

Today was GREAT!. It was the bike-a-thon. And it was really fun!

I finished the whole thing. (The Cancer Society says it was 58 miles, but my bike computer says it was 62.)

It was cool going over the Ben Franklin Bridge for the first time – especially since I am only 8.

A mile or two after the bridge, my Dad got a flat tire. He was the first person to get a flat.

Kate rode with us until he got it fixed and caught up to us.

My Mom and I stopped at the first rest stop. She got a drink and then we were off.

We rode on and on. Then my Mom’s knee started to hurt. She was in pain. But she kept riding. 17 miles to the next rest stop.

Did I mention it was hot? Well it was.

When we got to the rest stop we went to the bathroom. There was a long line. While we were waiting I grabbed me a banana and jungle cookies for my Mom.

Then we were riding again. It was 19 miles to the next rest stop.

On the way we passed these three boys. And we passed them 6 or 7 times. We were on a roll.

When we got to the third rest stop, we got some bad news. They were all out of sandwiches.

The next rest stop was only 7.5 miles away, so it went fast. On the way there, we passed the boys again.

After the rest stop they passed us and beat us to the finish line.

But we still made it – 58/62 miles.

The End

P.S. There is still time to sponsor us. Just got to assiters.org for details.

TV DAY!

This morning Noelle and I were on TV channel 29 news.

We had to wake up too early - we had to be at the TV station by 6:30 in the morning. I was really tired.

On TV we talked about the bike-a-thon. We even had our bikes there.

It was really fun. It was on Fox 29.

Thanks to one of our Dad's cousins, you can watch it now. Just click on the link:

Last long ride before the bike-a-thon

Well, this is it. Today were our last long rides before the bike-a-thon. It is only one week away.

Kate finished with a good 30 mile ride and Noelle with a nice 15er.

Just a few more short rides until the big day.

The rain has stopped

Finally. We were able to get in our whole scheduled ride. It's the first time in over 10 days.

We each rode for a couple of hours.

Only one long ride left before the bike-a-thon.
